Lucy Welch

Presented by Operation Unite NY

January 6 - 25, 2021

Lucy Welch is a painter based in Hudson, NY.  Painting is a way for her to express her passions, her imagination, her joys and her sorrows.  When an image forms in her mind she gets it onto canvas (or any available surface) as quickly as possible.  Watching the image come into focus with paint and brush is an exhilarating process, a high speed chase to capture all of its parts before the muse fades away.  These visions calling for attention can be about Welch’s feelings or just “something that I see in a weird way.”   As time passes her style leans more towards the abstract and surreal.  She studies the details of the world around her and then distorts the shapes and colors to better reflect the vision of her mind’s eye.
